The Art Center

Hey, look us over.....the painting goes on.  The Moore County Art Association’s home adjoining Window on the Plains Museum is a great place to visit.  You can even join an open-painting program.  Or, take part in a class for nominal tuition, taught by artists with established reputations.  Or, enroll your children in classes just for young people.  Special features are a member’s show and sale during the Christmas season.   Special guest artists are featured each month throughout the year with one-man exhibits.  To add to the attraction of the many and varied programs, the association has a permanent collection of 100, or more, art pieces that are hung every summer for area residents and tourists.  The art works have been donated or acquired by purchase.  Stop by to see us!  The Art Center is located at 1810 S. Window on Plains Museum

A “Must See”!  Located at 1820 South Dumas Avenue.  We have preserved our heritage here.  You will find displays and artifacts depicting life in Moore County, Texas throughout its history.  Guided tours are available explaining each display and the history behind each item.  One of the best county museums you will visit!  The displays have very interesting items in them and are well displayed.  Admission: Free

Pheasant Trails Golf Course

A real treat for traveling golfers.  Golf Digest has rated this three stars Golf Course as one of the best values in North Texas.  Located North of Dumas just off FM 119 to Sunray (see sign on Hwy 287 North) this 18 hole Championship Course is one of the few in the area with watered fairways.  Par is 71, but difficult to obtain on this great lay-out.  The course features bent-grass greens, with sand, water and trees to add true value in recreation.  The 4 hours of enjoyment here is well worth the stop!  Electric & pull carts are available.

Cactus Playa Lake

A real treat for the nature tourism fan.  A playa lake NE of Dumas, just off Hwy 287 N., is under development where you can observe hundreds of species of birds in migration.  The fertile grain fields and our playa lakes attract these birds to our area on their migration patterns. Dumas Noon Lions Club’s DOGIE DAYS

This huge festival is produced by the Dumas Noon Lions Club and takes place beginning the 2nd Wednesday in June.  The event features a carnival nightly with numerous additional food and game booths set-up and operated by the Lions.  Thursday from 11:00 a.m. till 1:30 p.m. the whole area turns out for their famous Real Pit Bar-B-Que Picnic in McDade Park.  The festivities end Saturday night with a morning parade and the giving away, to some lucky participant, a well equipped, new vehicle that evening during the carnival festivities.  This is an event you will enjoy no matter where you come from, and you may need to bring an extra driver to drive your new vehicle back home.  For information about this event contact the Chamber of Commerce at 806-935-2123.

Diez y Seis Celebration

This event is held in September in Cactus, Texas recognizing Mexico’s Independence Day.  This is a three day event with arts and crafts booths located in the Cactus Community Center.  Hispanic Music played by live bands each night and Saturday morning a parade takes place.  Contact the City of Cactus for more information: 806-966-5458

Sunray Fun Day

Each year in August, Sunray, Texas, hosts a festival celebrating fun in the summertime.  The Sunray Lions Club produces the event featuring a parade, numerous merchandise booths and mouth-watering Bar-B-Que.  Call the City of Sunray for more information: 806-948-4111

Fourth of July Celebration and The World Championship Mud Volleyball Tournament

Join us in Dumas on July 4 for an Independence Day Celebration huge enough to make you want to spend all day.  The centerpiece is the World Championship Mud Volleyball Tournament which regularly features nearly 50 teams.  Other events include entertainment, arts and crafts booths, food.  Call the Chamber for more information:  806-935-2123 or email
